Turkey is basted so that it acquires a golden brown color, as well as a crispy skin. Apart from this, it does not enhance the turkey’s taste in any way. Turkeys baste can be prepared in the following way:
Ingredients:
- ½ cup softened butter
- 1 tablespoon lime juice
- 1 teaspoon poultry seasoning
- 1 teaspoon sweet basil
- 1 teaspoon thyme
- ½ teaspoon sage
Instructions:
- Mix all these ingredients together in order to create a turkey baste.
Basting a turkey
- The turkey baste is poured over the turkey getting roasted inside the oven. This process is repeated every 30-40 minutes. However, basting a turkey has its flip sides. By repeatedly opening the oven door, the heat inside gets affected, and the meat takes longer to cook. Basting should ideally be done in the last hour of roasting.
