People used to associate Italian cuisine with pizzas and pasta recipes, but that changed when Italian delis introduced submarine sandwiches. If you want to learn how to make this in the heart of your homes, see the recipe below.
1/4 cup Italian vinaigrette
1 long crusty loaf (about 16 inches) French or Italian bread
1/4 cup mayonnaise
2 small ripe tomatoes, thinly sliced
4 ounces prosciutto, thinly sliced
6 ounces Italian salami, thinly sliced
3 ounces cheddar cheese, thinly sliced
6 ounces boiled ham, thinly sliced
4 ounces provolone cheese, thinly sliced
12 slices dill pickles
1 cup shredded iceberg lettuce
12 small sweet pickled peppers, sliced
Take a piece of loaf bread and cut this in half lengthwise. Spread mayonnaise on cut area.
On the bottom half of the loaf, layer slices of tomato, prosciutto, salami, cheddar cheese, ham, provolone, and pickles. Top it with lettuce and pickles peppers.
Put a tablespoon of vinaigrette over the filling. Cover the sandwich with the other half of bread. Press down firmly.
Finally, arrange the sandwich on a serving dish and serve. This makes 3-4 servings.
