Bruschetta is a delicacy whose origin begins in the Abruzzo region in Italy. A tasty dish that can stand alone as is or be consumed with other dishes. If you dare explore the possibilities, you can try a variety of toppings that will be an adventure to your palate.
Ingredients:
- 1 loaf of Italian bread, cut into ½-inch slices
- 4 cloves of garlic, sliced in half
- 1/3 cup of olive oil
- 3 tablespoons of balsamic vinegar
- 1/8 cup of freshly chopped basil or ½ teaspoon dried
- 4-5 medium, ripe tomatoes, peeled, coarsely chopped and drained in a strainer
- A pinch of freshly ground black pepper
- Freshly grated Parmesan cheese
Instructions:
- Get a large bowl and whisk together the following ingredients: pepper, basil, vinegar and oil.
- Add into the mixture your drained tomatoes and then make sure that it is well coated by the wet mixture.
- Leave it in the mixture for around 15 up to 30 minutes.
- While waiting for your tomatoes to get soaked with the wet mixture, toast the slices of bread evenly on each side.
- After toasting, rub the exposed side of the garlic on both of the toasted sides of the bread.
- Retrieve the tomatoes and place them on top of each slice of bread.
- You can serve them as is, but if you want a more savory snack you can sprinkle your Parmesan cheese on top and allow it to melt inside the oven until the cheese melts.
