How to Make Butterhorn Bread

This butterhorn recipe is very simple to prepare. It doesn’t even require any kneading skills and the dough is very easy to handle. It’s slightly sweet and flaky treat perfect for snack or dinner time.

Ingredients:

  • 4 cups all-purpose flour
  • 1/2 cup sugar
  • 1 teaspoon salt
  • 1 cup cold butter or shortening
  • 1 (.25 ounce) package active dry yeast
  • 1/4 cup warm water (105 degrees to 115 degrees)
  • 3/4 cup warm milk (110 to 115 degrees F)
  • 1 egg, lightly beaten
  • 4 tablespoons melted butter, divided

Instructions:

  1. In a large mixing bowl, combine the flour, sugar, and the salt. Put in the butter and cut in mixture until it resembles coarse crumbs. Using another bowl, dissolve the yeast in warm water. Then add it to the crumb mixture.
  2. Add milk and mix well.
  3. Cover the mixture and refrigerate it overnight.
  4. Divide the dough into four equal parts.
  5. On a lightly floured surface, roll out one portion into a 12 inch circle.
  6. Brush with 1 tablespoon of melted butter.
  7. Cut into 12 pie shaped wedges. Roll up, starting with the wide end and place it on greased baking sheets.
  8. Repeat procedure with the remaining dough.
  9. Cover the rolls and allow it to rise in a warm place until it is nearly doubled. This will take about 1 hour.
  10. Bake at 375 degrees F for about 10-12 minutes or until golden brown.
  11. Remove from oven and place on wire racks to cool.
