This is a wonderful recipe that gives you a delicious cinnamon raisin bread that’s perfect for any occasion. The tasty cinnamon swirls are also a sure treat for the kids

Ingredients:

  • 1 (.25 ounce) package active dry yeast
  • 1/4 cup warm water (105 degrees to 115 degrees)
  • 2 cups warm milk (110 to 115 degrees F)
  • 1/3 cup sugar
  • 1/4 cup vegetable oil
  • 2 teaspoons salt
  • 5 3/4 cups all-purpose flour
  • 2 cups raisins
  • 1 tablespoon ground cinnamon
  • 1/2 cup sugar
  • 1 tablespoon water

For the glaze:

  • 1/2 cup confectioners’ sugar
  • 1 tablespoon milk

Instructions:

  1. Using a mixing bowl, dissolve the yeast in warm water.
  2. Carefully add the milk, sugar, oil, salt, and 2 cups of flour. Beat the mixture until it becomes smooth.
  3. Add the raisins and the rest of the flour to form a soft dough.
  4. Turn the dough on to a floured surface. Knead the dough until it becomes smooth and elastic. This will take about 6-8 minutes.
  5. Place the dough into a greased bowl. Turn it once to grease the top. Cover the dough and allow it to rise in a warm place until doubled. This will take about 1 ¼ hours.
  6. Punch down the dough.
  7. On a lightly floured surface, part dough in half. Roll each half into a 15×7 inch rectangle.
  8. Combine cinnamon and remaining sugar then sprinkle over the dough.
  9. Splash with a littler water. Starting with the short side, roll up the dough tightly, as in a jelly roll. Pinch the seams and the ends to seal. Place the dough, seam side down, in two greased 9x5x3 inch loaf pans.
  10. Cover the dough and allow it to rise until doubled. This will take about 1 hour.
  11. Bake at 350 degrees F for 30-35 minutes or until bread is golden brown.
  12. Remove from pans and place on a wire rack to cool. Combine the glaze ingredients then drizzle over the cinnamon bread loaves.
