How to Smoke a Turkey

Smoked turkey is not easy to make, but once you start making it, you will fall in love with the taste and its delicacy. Many folks do not have a smoker because it can be expensive to purchase a brand new smoker. You can either buy water smokers or charcoal smokers, which are located near the BBQ grills. If you want to save money, try searching for smokers at garage and moving sale.

Ingredients:

  • One turkey (about 15-20 pounds)
  • One medium onion
  • Two bay leaves
  • ½ cup white wine
  • Smoking sauce
  • 2 stalks of celery
  • Four cloves of garlic

Equipment(s) required:

  • Turkey smoker
  • Roasting pan
  • Meat thermometer
  • Smoking wood
  • Lifters
  • Water pan

Instructions:

  1. Wash and clean the turkey well. Pat it dry. Rub oil all over the turkey.
  2. Put hot water in the plastic or steel container. Add the onion, bay leaves, white wine, celery, and garlic to it. Now, place this water pan inside the turkey smoker. Place the turkey meat on the smoker grid. If you wish, you can place some onions, celery, and bay leaves inside the turkey as well. Close the smoker and start cooking.
  3. The turkey should be smoked for about 4-6 hours. In between this cooking time, remove the cover of the turkey smoker, and apply smoking sauce all over the meat. Cook again.
  4. After the turkey has been cooked in the smoker for about 4-6 hours, apply the smoking sauce over it once again. Allow the turkey to smoke for about 15 minutes.
